Pilsen Community Books is honored to welcome Alejandra Oliva, Diego Báez, Daniel Borzutzky and other special guests to the store for a reading and teach-in in support of Midwest Immigration Bond Fund (MIBF). The Midwest Immigration Bond Fund facilitates a revolving immigration bond fund to pay immigration bonds that frees individuals from ICE custody and gathers community to advocate for the abolition of immigration detention and surveillance. The MIBF was formed through a coalition in 2020 and began paying out immigration bonds for IL, IN, WI, and KY residents as funds allow in February 2021. In this moment of continued state repression and federal attacks on immigrant rights, we partnered with MIBF this Independent Bookstore Day to help raise money for and awareness of their important work. We will be carrying a limited edition print designed by Evangeline Stott, and drinks and snacks will be available as well, with all proceeds going to MIBF.
