Soup & Bread & Thread

Stressed out? Feeling hopeless and crushed by despair? Experts agree: the remedy is soup. Join us at the Hideout for the final Soup & Bread of the winter 2025 soup season — and the return of Soup & Thread! We’re extending our hours this month, so stick around after the soup is gone for a crafting hour. We’ll have quilting panels to decorate and sew as part of our ongoing Soup & Thread project, as well as markers and other sign-making materials to make protest signs for the big April 5 national protest (and any other protest) against the fascist takeover of our country. Seriously friends: getting off the internet and into real shared space with others is the fundamental building block of community, and community is what we need now, more than ever. We’ll have soup from an array of cooks, including Kimski chef Won Kim, Ali Kinsella, Hideout sound guy Kenny Rassmussen, Ben Randall, Mina Bond, Bryce Sabin, and Soup & Bread stalwart Ethan Fischer, from Urban Canopy. Bread is donated as ever by our friends at Publican Quality Bread and Middlebrow! Special guest DJ Stan Wood! All your pay what you can donations go to support the cooking program at the Marjorie Kovler Center, which provides medical and mental health care and supportive services for survivors of torture and their families. That’s from 5:30-10 pm on Wednesday April 2 at the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia in Chicago. Kids are welcome if accompanied by a parent or guardian. Spring is here! Eat soup; it could fuel the revolution.
