SEED EXCHANGE: Trial Event!

Free event, RSVP Strongly Encouraged! Join us for a fun and inspiring Seed Exchange at the McKinley Park Branch Library! Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just starting, this is a perfect chance to connect with others, exchange seeds, and grow your gardening community. Here's how it works: Early Seed Drop-Off (2:00 PM – 3:00 PM): Stop by during the afternoon to drop off any seeds you’d like to share! Dropping off during this time helps us organize and get everything ready before the swap starts. If you’re sharing seeds, prepackaging them is not required. However, please include the following information if possible: Name Variety Harvest Year Vendor or Self-Harvested Untreated or Treated Note: Unknown seeds will not be accepted. If you can’t make it earlier, no problem—seed drop-offs are welcome during swap hours too! Bringing seeds is not required, but any amount you can share is greatly appreciated. Early Drop-Off Giveaway: Every individual who drops off seeds during the Early Seed Drop-Off hour will be entered into a giveaway for a chance to win a prize. There will be a total of three winners. Winners will be selected at 3:15 PM and notified via email by 3:30 PM. Prizes must be claimed by 7:00 PM at the event location. Winners can choose from a range of growing kits. Seed Exchange (3:30 PM – 7:00 PM): Stop by during your reserved time slot to choose your seeds! All seeds will be pre-packaged in labeled bags, each clearly marked with the name, variety, and seed count. Each person can choose up to 10 seed varieties. If inventory allows, there may be an opportunity to select more. To keep things fair, each person is limited to one seed bag per variety. Reservations: Reservations are highly encouraged, as space is limited. Each time slot will have a set number of tickets, but if space allows, the public is welcome to join and choose seeds. Reserving your spot also helps us prepare for this event and gather valuable insights about demand, geographic representation, and time preferences to improve future seed exchanges. Upon completing your reservation, a confirmation email will be sent to you. Reservations for Seed Drop-off and Seed Exchange will close on February 23, 2025 at 11:59 PM (CST). For additional details, please check review the Agenda, Highlights, and FAQs sections. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to the event host, Emily, via Eventbrite or email seedexchangecommunity@gmail.com. Please Note: While this event is held at the McKinley Park Branch of the Chicago Public Library, it is not hosted by library staff. This is an independently organized event utilizing the Meeting Room as an event space. All inquiries regarding the Seed Exchange event should be directed to the host.
